Following a lifetime’s worth of being confused for the Hollywood funnyman, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith called out Will Ferrell to “stop impersonating me!” last February, issuing an epic showdown to settle their doppelgänger differences once and for all in a drum battle.

Having accepted the Chili Pepper’s challenge for a percussion-off, and laying some smack talk of his own, last night the pair of lookalikes used the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as the public forum for their hilarious fight.

After discussing their ongoing rivalry over their ‘separated at birth’ looks with the late night US TV host, ‘Will Smith and Chad Ferrell’ got down to skin-thumping business in a “traditional drum-off” with “traditional rules”. Each got four opportunities to strut their stuff on the drums, as well as showcase their trash talk – with Ferrell’s smackdowns clearly outstripping Chad ‘Chili’ Smith’s lame “ladies first” catcalls in that half of the contest. (Highlights include: “looks like baby wearned to pway the drums!”)

So who is ultimately declared the winner? Well, the audience really. View the full drum-off and interview below and be sure to stick around for the surprise ending (Hint: it’s got a lot to do with Smith’s bandmates and a cheeky callback to a cowbell-starring SNL sketch).
