Paul Kelly has released a surreal new video for his single ‘Firewood and Candles’ in which he plays a chef.

“Cooking seems to pop up in songs of mine from time to time”, Kelly explains. “The director, Prad Sen, and I wanted to pick up on that without getting too literal. We brainstormed with the Salvador Dali cookbook, seventies style recipes and TV cooking shows. From there things just got curiouser and curiouser.”

The track comes a week ahead of PK’s forthcoming album Life Is Fine, which sees Kelly return to the sound of his mid-’80s records.

“I knew I wanted it to be an upbeat record,” Kelly says of the album. “We worked with Steve Schram, who engineered and co-produced. He likes to work really fast and get the performance of the band live in the studio, vocals and all at the same time. There are lots of different ways to make records but that’s the way I like to do it now.”
