Perennial pothead band Wavves saw their bassist Stephen Pope busted for having dope on him at MTV’s Video Music Awards on Sunday and got escorted from the venue, while perpetually plastered front man Nathan Williams catalogued a night of caning it on his Twitter page.

In the car on the way to the ceremony, he let followers know “Heading to tha VMAs right now popping pills and bottles whaaats good doe” before revealing that security had confiscated his beer: “Already got our 18 pack of bud light taken by security and kojo stole all my shine son!”

He then admitted he wasn’t too keen on all the red carpet nonsense, tweeting “Smoking a blunt in an escalade down the street from all this bulllllllshhhhhoiiiiiit.” He then had a rant about his champagne being confiscated by security “Now they won’t let us in w our champagne damn they taking all our booze bu were out here drinking anywayyyys” which was followed up by news that his bass player had been booted from the venue; saying “Fuuuuuuuuck @SteviePopJr already got kicked out for having weed and booze? Ahhhhh I gotta sit by myself now”

That didn’t stop him from being a knight in shining armour, however, for he managed in his drunken and stoned state to sneak Odd Future front man Tyler, The Creator’s Mum his red carpet pass so she could sneak in, bragging “ So glad I got @fucktyler mom my carpet pass that shit was unreal”

The band are set to release a new EP Life Sux, and the lead track ‘I Wanna Meet Dave Grohl’ is also set to be featured on MTV’s classy new instalment of their trash TV, entitled I Just Want My Pants Back. Williams has contributed 20 songs to the show’s first season as ‘guest composer’ and he will be releasing the  EP via his own Ghost Ramp label on Sept. 20.
