NICE : NOISE Label Launch: Nun, Miles Brown & More

Why? There’s a new record label in town named NICE : NOISE, and to celebrate their birth, they’re throwing a party this Friday night. Hailing from Melbourne, the crew state that they are “dedicated to up-heaving Australia’s backyards, draining the suburban pools & scouring the cupboards of our city share houses past & present to bring you the best in electronic, squelches, squeals, analogue hums and various fodder.” Sounds about right considering the killer line-up set to play, including Nun, Miles Brown, Taipan Tiger Girls (Ollie Olsen / Mat Watson) and Vacuum.

Echo Drama

Where? The Evelyn Hotel, 351 Brunswick St, Fitzroy, Melbourne

Why? Melbourne’s revered dub/reggae/hiphop nine-piece Echo Drama are proud to announce their November residency at Fitzroy’s Evelyn Hotel to celebrate the arrival of their EP Remix The Weapons, a remixed version of their stellar EP Bury The Weapons. The new reworked release features flavours from producers Deep Fried Dub, The Oil Baron, Dr Lee, LANKS, c0mp0s1te and YUV. For the first night of their month-long annexation, Echo Drama have offered free copies of the new album with Mose + The FMLY, The Black Harrys and The Oil Baron (DJ) supporting.

Why? There’s a very unique sonic experience happening this weekend in Sydney courtesy of the guys behind FBi Radio’s experimental music program, Ears Have Ears, who have teamed up with Room40’s tape imprint A Guide To Saints. The collective are throwing a night of ambience, noise and experimental electronics that cannot be missed. Headlined by Kiwi-turned-Melbournian Tom Coster, responsible for the captivating Gemini EP, the artist will be joined by Marcus Whale and Chunyin for a musical evening like no other.

Super Best Friends

Why? Who’s up for a night of grunge-soaked Aussie alt-rock? Look no further than Canberra’s Super Best Friends who will be turning Sydney venue Spectrum into their own beer-stained playground this Friday night. Gaining well-earned popularity for their hooky, anthem single ‘Out Tonight‘, the three-piece will also be joined by fat-riffed Maids.

Why? It’s looks like Adelaide has scored the best local gig of the week with the adored Sydney three-piece bringing their sun-drenched indie-pop tunes to South Australia this weekend. It’s been a long 18-months since the group’s last headline tour, but thankfully they have returned with a bagful of new tunes from their forthcoming debut record. The band mere days ago released their glimmering buoyant track ‘Pelican‘ and are itching to play the tune live. Be sure to catch one of Australia’s most exciting talents.

Why? It’s been nearly two years in the making, but at long last musicians Pete and Lana of Eteana are proud to announce the arrival of their full-length LP. Ed Kuepper & Blank Realm

Why? No name is more respected in the Australian punk rock scene than Ed Kuepper. In addition to being a major figure in Brisbane’s music history, as a co-founder of The Saints, The Laughing Clowns, and The Aint’s, Kuepper is an icon of Australia’s vibrant ’70s punk rock scene. Fans will now be able to catch the legendary Kuepper at Brisbane’s newest venue, The Triffid, for a special night as part of the G20 Cultural Celebrations. Joining Kuepper for this highly anticipated appearance will be local quartet Blank Realm.

The Medics

Why? Beloved locals The Medics were birthed in Cairns, North Queensland and have gone on to stand as one of Australia’s most exciting young bands, racking up performances at prestigious festivals like Splendour In The Grass, Big Day Out, Laneway Festival, and Groovin’ The Moo. They will now present a sprawling set at Brisbane’s Hi-Fi as part of the G20 Cultural Celebrations, playing songs from their award-winning album Foundations, as well as material from their forthcoming album and will pay respect to their history and culture as they perform alongside NAIDOC Lifetime Achievement Award winner Bunna Lawrie on songs by Coloured Stone and Yothu Yindi.
