After seven years together, and having released their debut album back in November, Melbourne duo Willow Beats have broken the news to their dedicated fans that they’re going on an “indefinite hiatus”.
Taking to Facebook, the pair announced that after some careful consideration, they’ve decided to part ways to work on new projects and explore new creative avenues.
“Hey friends, we are going on an indefinite hiatus,” wrote Kalyani Mumtaz on Facebook. “This may come as a surprise but it’s something we’ve been mulling over for a while.”
“I have worked on this project since the age of 14 (I’m 21 now) and am ready for some time to work on new things and explore myself as an artist and person outside of this all consuming project.”
“I want to give a huge thanks to everybody who’s been apart of this crazy journey! We both need some time to work on our art and selves,” confirmed Narayana Johnson. “I’m sure you’ll see/ hear us round! Thank you so much for the continued support. We honestly have the most incredible supporters.”
The group also confirmed that they’re set to play two final shows to help fans say goodbye. “We are putting on two last parties to celebrate this amazing 7 years of music, and of course to celebrate all of you- our amazing supporters,” the pair explained.
The two retrospective shows, taking place in Sydney and Melbourne in early July, will see the group playing plenty of tracks from their back catalogue, as well as showing off one last new track. So while it might be time to say farewell to Willow Beats, you haven’t heard the last of their new tunes just yet.
