Cool Summer Festival defies Mother Nature; this one of a kind music festival is set to return in 2014 with a weekend fit for a Queen. And the King. And the little princes. And the villagers and their besties…

Imagine this – it’s sweltering hot, parched and crawling with tourists on the ‘flatlands’ (y’know, Melbourne, Albury, Bairnsdale, Mornington, Bright… those flatlands) and you know the beaches and rivers will be swarming with manic families trying to cool down for their last weekend of school holidays. Yet up at Mt Hotham, the air is balmy, laced with the sweet smell of wildflowers. Beside you, an esky full of your favourite boutique beer and a bottle of wine from that delightful trip to the Yarra Valley is nestled amongst a picnic, some cushions, a bottle of sunscreen, French cheese and your very best mates.  You’ve just wandered up the slope from your lodge, freshly showered and ready for two days of fabulous, hip shaking funk, roots, rock & roll. A butterfly lands on your stubby holder. You gaze in wonder at the 360 degree views and lie back in rapture, watching kids ride the chairlift amongst the snow gums. Heaven on a stick.

This awaits you at the Cool Summer Festival, held at Mt Hotham for the 7th glorious year from January 31 – February 2nd. The festival organisers have stayed true to their original idea of remaining independent, resisting the spoils of large commercial sponsorship. As a result, the festival boasts low security, BYO alcohol, cheap tickets, free entry for kids and a whole bunch of great Australian musicians. In 2013, bushfires in the surrounding area meant the festival was forced to hibernate for the summer, but it is set to return in 2014 with such a bang that you’ll think fireworks have erupted nearby.

This time round, Cool Summer Festival is being headlined by the 2012 Triple J Unearthed High winner, electro-pop artist Asta, and another Triple J favourite Bonjah, with their explosive live act that has been creating a stir at festivals all over Australia. The line up features other festival favourites such as King Of The North, identical twins The Pierce Brothers, the hilarious force that is Colonel Viper’s Whipstick Band, Bairnsdale maestros That Gold Street Sound and one of our favourite rockers (original Beechworth boys) My Left Boot amongst many more.

Tickets are on sale now for $82.50+bf and kids 16 and under are free. Tix on sale at www.coolsummerfestival.com. Three days of music and indulgence, on two stages in the middle of nowhere, with the luxury of everything.

To celebrate, Tone Deaf are giving away a couple double passes to the festival. Enter your details below to win.
