Musomap have just announced the inaugural World Musician Day on Saturday 6th April at the iconic Sydney Park, St Peters. It’s a day to celebrate musicians – from 12noon – 5pm.

When introducing the event, Musomap’s founding director Kahne Raja described World Musician Day as a “celebration of our local, live-performing musicians. It is a day for neighbouring musicians to come together and perform in everyday, socially accessible places.”

To get the ball rolling on this local music collaboration initiative, the Musomap Team has enrolled a number of artists including Jeff Duff and the Sydney Street Choir, The Crooked Fiddle Band, Chango Salsa Band and many other loved and local groups to perform in celebration of the musicians in the community.

World Musician Day is a not-for-profit initiative set to be one of a kind, featuring 10 local musicians/music groups who were elected by their fellow musicians via Musomap – a new, online social and location-based network that helps musicians from Sydney and all over the world find teachers, promote their music, share gigs and trade gear (www.musomap.com).

The event will also feature ‘sign up on the day’ musicians – professionals, amateurs, hobbyists – from all over the city who, on arrival, will put their name down to perform and be in the running to win the $1,000 People’s Choice Award.

World Musician Day is hosted by Musomap and supported by official sponsoring partner City of Sydney together with APRA, AMCOS, Musica Viva, Yelp Sydney, KIDSize Living, Katastrophic Events, Auspicious Arts and SoundStageReview InterMedia.

Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore will officially announce the launch of World Musician Day at 12noon. The opening will feature a new collaboration by Australian rock legend Jeff Duff and the much-loved Sydney Street Choir.

The other electrifying headliner musicians include The Crooked Fiddle Band and Triple J unearthed indie/folk stars Natalie Magee, Betty & Oswald, and bluegrass group The Lunch Mothers. Acoustically inclined audience members will enjoy performances by up-and-coming opera singer Raphael Hudson with the Sydney Lyric Opera, freelance classical musician Andrea with friends, and Wollongong-based blues singer/songwriter Ethan Blencowe.

This live music event would not be complete without dancing which will be unavoidable with the lively Latin-inspired sounds of the classical ensemble Duo Diavolo and Petersham locals Changó! Salsa Band.

10 featured local acts across 2 main stages and 40+ jammers across 6 garden spaces (including a Grand Piano provided by Hutchings Pianos), as well as a vibrant family-oriented children’s stall complete with face painting and musically themed arts crafts workshop hosted by KIDSize Living & Katastrophic Events.
